It's funny, but two of the three GameCube games Nintendo showed off at E3 yesterday (as seen on TechTV) looked like "Nintendo does genre" titles.
Luigi's Mansion, the first Mario Bros game for the GameCube, struck me as "Nintendo does survival horror." Luigi wins a haunted mansion in a contest, Mario disappears (gasp, Mario is Missing!), and Luigi has to play Ghostbuster to save him.
Another game, Pikmin, looked like "Nintendo does real-time strategy," though it seemed to have a strong Pokemon/Sonic-Adventure-Chao element to it. (In fact, when showing off Pikmin, Miyamoto said something like, I know this looks strange, but so did Pokemon, and that turned out all right, didn't it?
) Now that I check nintendo.com, their Pikmin release calls it a strategy title: Pikmin is an inventive life simulation and action-strategy title that pushes the limits of the imagination....
Both games looked really cool, as did the Super Smash Bros video and demo-y material they showed. Too bad I'm not a gamer.
