Plastic reports Nick Nunziata of movie site chud.com says computer animation in movies heralds a return to storytelling, because people are less impressed with visual effects. EyeballKid comments that's why Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within isn't worth the bits it's printed on (which is what I was afraid of):
The [Final Fantasy] review on AICN brings up the same point this article does. As a special effects film, it's just about as beautiful as any, but the plot is weak.
ojy2k makes the point in reply to the AICN review that the Final Fantasy games themselves have been getting steadily worse--I certainly enjoyed IV on the SNES more than 7 on the Playstation.
Hello, this is not the same Square that used to write stories about barely idientifiable sprites that had real heart and character, this is an increasingly egocentric company that only wants to make games that look like movies and has forgoten to include characters which act like humans. I hope this movie proves to be financially dissapointing for them- it would be a humbling experience that they could certainly use.
Evangelist takes the opportunity to lambast this year's movie crop in toto, which has been the general consensus so far:
Movie-wise, this year has completely sucked; it says something when the best film so far is a bloody musical from the acclaimed director of Romeo Plus Juliet. I suppose it was inevitable, due to the massive karmic imbalance caused by the orgy of great movies that was '99 (Being John Malkovich, Princess Mononoke, Fight Club, Iron Giant, Magnolia, to name a very few). Still, annoying. Hopefully Fellowship of the Ring will clean up the mess once we hit December, eh?
At this point, good <foo> can save bad <bar> but good <bar> can't rescue bad <foo>
is such a cliche.
(Comments on movies: O Brother, AI in Wired News, my original bad year rant, and Shrek.)

“Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within ” is the best 3D graphic film ever. Sublime scene! The cartoon effect is lifelike. The story line is superb, the heroine is very beautiful. In this film, I love the people’s sensation and scene. With the great imagination.
