So, last week, I finished a MindShareWare project (as seen on kuro5hin). It's a Swing widget that lets you drag icons around. The MSW experience is mostly echoed in my comment in that thread (kuro5hin comment #2 for me)--I got $25, the extra $5 for good comments. $10 just went to NewsIsFree, and the rest just subsidized a purchase at futurepopshop.
