Gary Groth vs Scott McCloud in more web comics whatnot (Salon, The Comics Journal)

For a person of such tenuous optimism as myself, it was depressing to read Gary Groth, some non-trivial deadtree comics guy I never heard of, badmouth Scott McCloud's Reinventing Comics (which I read and enjoyed immensely), in McCloud Cuckoo-Land at The Comics Journal. I didn't even bother reading his part two. After, though, I was relieved to read McCloud's response, McCloud in Stable Condition Following Review, Groth Still at Large, issues later in The Comics Journal (published by Fantagraphics Books, co-owned by Groth). Maybe it's just a sign of my tendency to waver in opinion, especially when not fully awake yet, but I'm certainly glad that even after the Salon article on the brouhaha, No laughing matter, I haven't been shorn from my agreement with McCloud as to the wonders in store for independent publishing in general on the Internet. [thanks, A Boy and His Basement; also seen in Techdirt]
