Something I've noticed about furry types is that once you get into the headspace where people can be part animal and part person, it's a slippery slope where all the rules can be thrown out the window. That's why I take it as a Formative Furry Momenttm the Blue Falcon and Dyno-Mutt cartoon where the antagonist is an evil blob of sentient goo turning others into blobs of sentient goo. Something about it just felt exciting and threatening and strange and intensely interesting, to some quiet kid who liked cartoons and school and played around with those computer thingies.
And that's what the quote made me think of, more than the web being an ad-hoc distributed network flow thingamawhatsit. So there you are.
