A blessedly dumb idea: Google should be a regulated "utility!" Eh-he. From the piece:
PageRank must be streamlined so that the "tyranny of the rich" characteristics are scaled down in favor of a more egalitarian approach to link popularity.
The point of a search engine is not to be egalitarian: I want the authoritative source on what I'm seeking, not every Tom, Dick, and Harry who said something about it.
Google is so important to the web these days, that it probably ought to be a public utility. Regulatory interest from agencies such as the FTC is entirely appropriate....
Google being so good everyone uses it means it requires regulation? I thought we had rules against seizure of property.
Google... only recently began using sponsored links and ad boxes....
I don't know where you've been if that counts as "recent," but it's sure not on the web.
