Linux Advocate Fired for Hating Microsoft. (Seen also by mail from Politech.) This sentence gelled a thought for me:
The Microsoft-backed group says its purpose is to promote even-handed competition based on the merits of products, instead of a government bias for one kind of software.
This is analogous to far-right Christian dealings with government. I drive by a particular church on my commute that, for lack of a better word, trolls on its sign. The latest one was something like, "Government can gag teachers, but not students," and a short admonition for students to celebrate Christianity in school.
If Christianity weren't already overwhelmingly represented, teachers could be allowed to express their religion. (Of course, zealotry would be going too far: zealots of any kind shouldn't teach in public schools.) We have to restrict the religious expression of school officials because otherwise the expression would be overwhelmingly biased toward Christianity.
I'm not sure how governments mandating Linux and Microsoft's response analogizes, but the situation is thunderingly similar.
