Jennifer Government: NationStates

A friend thought I had mentioned Max Barry before, so he pointed me at NationStates, a (massively?) multiplayer nation sim game I did join, but mostly I'm just interested in the novel it's purportedly based on, Jennifer Government (or Jennifer Government). Max Barry sounds similar to Jim Munroe.

You should join Nation States Africa. The region is one of the most popular of the Nation States game. We have developed a highly sophisticated map and engage in a different topic weekly which mirrors issues debated among states of the international community daily. Last week, we dealt with the issue of Naile Zelaznog, a refugee boy who was claimed by his father in his native land. Clearly it was an attempt to recreate the Elian Gonzalez saga of 2000. The events were role played well and the outcome was fascinating.

The region of Africa in the nationstates game (www.nationstates.net)is a forum which brings divergent views from different corners of the earth and allows individuals to choose sides on weighty foreign policy decision. Perhaps even more fascinating is knowing where each player comes from as this gives a clue toward their nationstates’political inclinations.

A great game!

Wouldn’t it be great if you guys could upgrade the game in a way that you can wage war against another nation? Nothing big, just that when you view a nation, just like “add to your dossier”, there’d be a link saying “declare war on (RANDOMNAME)”. Then the war wages for 24 hours. Whichever nation has better overall, mostly military stats wins out over the opponent, and the loser’s economy drops from EX: “Thriving” to “Struggling”. I’m not the only one who wants this feature so bad, the other nations in my region, 134 of them, said they’d really love it if that upgrade ever happened. Think of all the others in the other region, and that would be a lot of votes, yes? Please try and give my suggestion an effort, just as I gave my effort and time typing this long suggestion. whew

Regards.

Actually, you can declare war, though it is not so simple— which is great, because real war isn’t that simple. Some RP war, I prefer invasion. While you need not fear any intent to invade Africa from my group, nice website.

This game is an offensive waste of bandwith. Ackbar, I know who you are. I have seen you complain to the moderators about their crackdown on invasion. This was the only interactive feature of the game, and the moderators have deleted many of my nations for invasion. This has ruined the game for me. Not only that, but the moderators have been abusive towards me personally and I do not deserve that kind of abuse when I’m playing an online game.

there was a good idea, but the game in the current form has no chance of being interesting or entertaining to me.

The game was never about “region invading” which makes no sense in the real world at all. This game was and still is about simulation…but mainly ROLEPLAYING in the forums.

For some good civil war RP:
