One, 2, 3, count with me

The other day when writing about Internet vs internet, I made the distinction between count and mass nouns. If you were wondering on some specifics of that distinction, Count vs. Mass Nouns in English is a good reference. I found it in Glenn Vanderburg's post on data vs datum.

And if a good ol' thread about genderfree pronouns is more up your alley, have I got a deal for you. (For some reason I never remember there was someone named Spivak; apparently which Spivak is an open question, but I'm tempted to side with the Footnotes author that it's Michael, particularly as e claims he wrote The Joy of TeX in particular with Spivak pronouns. Anyway, I always think of Spivak as being a hypothetical alien race with an indeterminate gender for which we would suddenly need a word, unless we wanted to be incredibly rude to them. Like, that Spivak is the related gender, not the inventor of that particular declension of genderfree pronouns.)
