More counterspam notes

Yeah, I cringed with everyone else at that guy's refusal to deal with spam filter false positives on his customers' mail, but after getting more bounce messages with me as the From, I'm damned if I don't understand the sentiment. Nailfucking spammers.

The five boxes to whom McGroarty will forward spam are admin, administrator, postmaster, abuse, and root. I forwarded two of these more recent bounces to abuse and postmaster at prodigy.net (since they were the only identifiable service--all the upstream places were just IPs, and actually I have no idea what I'm doing). For that I was only informed "User's mailbox is full: <postmast3r@prodigy.net> [sic, emph add]." So. Yeah.

Actually, in addition to the five above, I also send to everyone listed in the WHOIS for the record, even if they aren’t part of the same domain.

My thinking is that seeing your upstream provider or your name service provider included in the CC line is enough to warrant a little extra nervous attention from many. I’ve received a couple of complaints about my doing this, but I’ve also gotten a lot more responses from humans since I started doing that.

Eee hee… also, “postmast3r” doesn’t inspire confidence.

I believe that Prodigy sold their accounts to Yahoo DSL, which I believe to be SBC behind the curtains. Copying to Yahoo’s and SBC’s complaint addresses might win a little attention or, at the least, leave you feeling a bit better about the ordeal.

SBC not very behind curtains, if it says “SBC” atop prodigy.net!
