I'm really not sure what to think of this:
A former Georgia Bureau of Investigation computer forensics expert testified Wedneday that a "Clean Disk" program used by Dr. Alan Hughes on his computer is only used "to hide things and cover evidence." Robert G. Mandall, who now has his own firm specializing in computer evidence, said, "There is really no other reason to use it unless you want to cover your tracks." ...
Attorney Jennifer Lawrence asked Mr. Mandall concerning "Clean Disk" that "it's what crooks use, right?" Dr. Hughes has said he used the software program last September and October to free up more space on his computer--not to hide evidence.
That sounds absurd on the face of it--but there are other circumstances ("storing" email in the board chairman's box soliciting business activity against Erlanger's rules, using encryption against Erlanger policy even though that's kind of in the same vein as the disk cleaner I guess) in the case that sound unusual as well, so in general I'm not against suspicion of Dr Hughes. Just not for that reason. It's his behavior that's immoral or illegal, not using a personal security tool because "only criminals have something to hide." If I'm arrested on trumped-up computer-related charges, will I face the same accusations because I have PGP and its built-in thorough deleter installed?
