Decisions, decisions

Not only does Erik Benson have neat stuff on his site and not only did he create All Consuming (as featured in the sidebar), but he guest-wrote this week's Disenchanted, There ain't nothin' on TV. It's about and it's a rather thoughtful piece.

I'd like to think perhaps part of enlightenment is not performing this calculus of Value like Erik describes, but I'll admit to doing it. In fact, I probably cache my Values more aggressively than most: for example, when driving, I'll go out of my way to take a route I know when someone who believes that.. say.. you could always backtrack, and objects still exist when you aren't looking at them, would just try the new route this once. (I certainly don't claim to be enlightened.)

I do like the idea of decision making, fuzzy as it is, being a property emerging from subconscious weight of prior action. Given brains are neural networks and it sounds very much like what a neural network would do, it makes sense.

And of course there's more, if you look.
