I asked back in March how to make a Google API spell checker distinguish correct spelling from Google throwing up its arms. At the time I got no answer, but as I'm still on the front page for "google api" spell, that's no surprise. (The other results are all about; mine is the only one with a procedural question about how to use the thing.)
However, after I brought up that Google is the best way to do something useful with spell jungle wa itsume hale nochi guu (the spell command automatically wraps the term in quotes as a phrase search), someone suggested seeing if Google returned any hits for that term as a hint. Whether it works can be tested empirically, by trying misspelled words, throwing out the ones for which Google yields spelling suggestions, and seeing of the remainder how many return results versus how many don't.
Which is where I could use some help. Do you have any? The only word that came to mind (and which I wasted several minutes writing about for this very entry before deciding it was utterly inadmissable) is high-bias for being a Japanese name that many fans, fansubbers, and other people have seen fit to romanize in various ways. I figured a simple dictionary attack wouldn't work well either, for bias as well as probably turning up with suggestions.
